Saw this on my classic mustang digest I've heard of the one wire distributer conversion, but i'd never heard of replacing the voltage regulator with a late model electronic one

If i remember correctly you just check to ensure the voltage is over 12, and that means that power is flowing to the battery
It's either this or you check the current to see if it's going up. It seemed to idle smoothly but the interior lights seemed to flicker a bit while running It's possible that they've always done this and i just haven't noticed but i'm also thinking it could be caused by a bad voltage regulator that may have been zapped as well when i hooked up the battery backwards So i have a couple questions.

How do you go about testing one Your local parts store can test them I've had one that shorted out before, that was on my son's '65 There was a constant drain on the battery unless we unplugged the regulator.
