Hi all im a new amiga user and have a amiga 500 i understand i need a new kickstart rom to be able to load workbench 3.1 im not sure what the rom does or what it contains as i thought you could just boot the os from a disk Like 3.5 & 3.9, there's little point in running 4.0 as 4.1 takes 4.0 and refines it. If i find a new modern kick start rom where does this live on the board and will it break compatibility with older software and games
Going through the update process, you may run into a curious problem, if you have workbench 3.1 installed alongside kickstart 3.1, and you want to replace the roms with 3.2 roms, following an upgrade of workbench to 3.2. The classic 3.1 is definitely be worth it, as you would be able to run most modern amiga software with it. Do kickstart and workbench have to be equal by acid » sat oct 16, 2021 10:47 pm actually you can use 3.5 and 3.9 on physical 3.0 roms
You need to use a tool such as blitzkick or remapollo to load the 3.5/9 kickstart rom into memory which is basically what happens anyway when using 3.1 load 3.9.
For those with 3.2 roms who want to boot into wb 1.3 and do not want to contact and/or wait for hyperion to produce a fix in the roms, here is a potential workaround.the 1.3 workbench disk mounts the pipe Device from the s:startupii file Simply commenting out or removing the mount pipe Line will prevent it from ever being loaded.
You need a copy of the kickstart rom and the amiga os 3.2 cd (available here in the store) To do so, please download update 1 (amiga os 3.2.1) and update 2 (amiga os 3.2.2) from hyperion. Generally we run a version of workbench closely associated with the kickstart chips in our machines, so kickstart 1.3 users will run workbench 1.3, kickstart 3.1 users run workbench 3.1 and so on. Upgrading my amiga 1200 to the very latest amigaos 3.2.1
Includes fitting kickstart roms and updating workbench. Hyperion have attempted to roll all of the best features of os 3.1.4 into a new version called os 3.2 Which comes with a new set of kickstart roms, and a new workbench 3.2, on a cd Full new features list this is essentially an upgrade for emulator users, who can quickly swap their kickstart around, and install the package from the supplied.adfs.
A good tutorial on how to install workbench 3.1 on hard drive in winuae. Kickstart” can now boot with earlier workbench and icon library versions if they are present on the boot volume This allows for installation of the rom whilst retaining the ability to boot any amigaos version from 3.1 to 3.9, before installation of amigaos 3.2 on a volume As mej has said you can just mount the adf files and install workbench or you can run the workbench adf and it will just boot into workbench
Just like 3.0 / 3.1 / etc.
I think it's about 200kb vs 3.1.4, i had that rom in my 1mb a2000 previously Its loadmodule to replace just certain components am sure, my 64mb tf536 lost almost nothing running 3.2.1 (at the time) on a 3.1.4 rom. So workbench 1.3 ran with kickstart 1.3, workbench 2.04 with kickstart 2.04, workbench 3 with kickstart 3.0 etc. But in contrast older workbench versions will boot up fine on a system with newer kickstart roms, but because a lot of the os is built into the rom itself, including many system libraries, it means the older versions will look more.
The same roms that started this whole flaming mess to begin with Or do you want me to keep the kickstart 3.0 roms i have and attempt to run workbench 3.2 on them? Will amiga os 3.2 require a diff kickstart to 3.1.4 With the kickstart roms an a600 came with (one among 3 revisions of v37 depending on luck, iirc), the highest version of workbench you can run is 2.1
For 3.x, you would need a new kickstart (v40+ would be appropriate for a600)
