I've read that 00 grease can be put in both the transmission and auger gear box (hs724) I also use the 00 grease, which is in a quart bottle and squeezes out easily, in my aluminum auger clam shell style cases. When i unscrew the bolt on the gear box i see greenish gear oil.

Many of the cast iron auger gear boxes are filled with a gear lube, but over time, the seals wear out, and start leaking. If the seals leak, then something like a 00 grease, which is pourable and of a fluid consistency. That is a good time to start using a 00 grease, which has a viscosity heavier than gear oil, but comes in a pourable quart bottle like gear oil.

I am looking for an alternative grease to use inside the box

The manual says benalene grease but hard to find so looking at either a grease 00 or a. Anybody had any issues with using oo cotton picker grease in a cast iron front end of an ariens 924 series snowblower Ariens calls for l2 lube i have used it alot in leaky front ends, never had an issue Got this ariens yesterday with a leaky gearbox

Drained the oil, and filled with 00 grease Problem solved, 5 minute fix This gearbox was easy to fill from the front as pictured If you have to fill into a plug hole, it will take a while

00 grease, about $5 qt

The 00 grease is pour able so it should flow out of the fill hole if over full Also, the warmer it is, the more it flows so you could warm it in a pan of water 00 grease is far more fluid than i thought the first time i used it in the summer to. It seems as though 00 grease is the way to go, but i'm wondering the same thing about my husqvarna 10530sbe

I restored the machine about 6 years ago and replaced the gearbox assembly. Ideally an auger gearbox would take a gearbox oil such as 85w140, etc
